Make Your Photos Stand Out In Antique Picture Frames

By Ned Dagostino

Mass production can be a good thing. It allows us as consumers to purchase the products we want and need at affordable prices. And it makes those products easily available to us when we want them. But there's a down side to mass production as well, and some products are simply better when they are made by hand. Antiques were, for the most part, made by hand. And they are growing in popularity because of it.

This definitely applies to antique picture frames. These frames will show off your favorite pictures or artwork in a way that a store bought frame simply cannot. They will not only protect those cherished possessions, but draw attention to them.

If you have a photo in a store bought frame it probably looks pretty nice, and there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. But move that picture to an antique frame and it will take on a whole new aura. It's not something that is easily explained, but it is easily noticed.

Think about this. You have a very old photograph of your great grandmother as a child. Now imagine that same picture in a frame that she owned. It would certainly give that photo extra meaning.

Now not everybody has a frame like this. In that case, imagine that photo in a frame made from the same time period. All of a sudden you have something more than a picture with a border around it. Looking at it, you'll feel as if the photo and frame were made for each other. The eyes of you and your guests will be drawn to it. And you'll love hearing the comments you are sure to receive.

And with an antique frame there's very little reason to worry about quality. I'm not some old timer who thinks everything made in my day was better than it is today. But I do think that when you buy an antique, you're getting something that you know was handmade with pride and quality. That's still available today, just not as often.

Everything was handcrafted then. And a true artist could provide spectacular detailing. Look closely and you'll see it. Like we said, there are still frame makers today that can provide great quality, but as we mentioned, quality is not the only reason to go with an antique. It's just one of many.

But as with everything else, there's a catch. And in this case, the catch is generally the price. Some people think they probably can't afford a true antique. And the fact is, that these frames can be quite costly. More than once I've gone into an antique store and almost fainted when I turned over the price tag. And that hold true whether you are looking at a wood frame, or one made of silver or gold.

Many people will now do one of two things. They will either give up and go to their local discount store, or they fork over their money thinking they have no other choice. But there is another and better choice. You should be patient and look around. Check local consignment stores and look online. If you take your time, you will eventually end up with the frame you are looking for at a price you can afford.

And when that happens, go ahead and buy it. Bring it home or have it shipped to you. Then display that favorite photograph and right away you'll see the difference.

Your guests and family members will notice the difference as well. - 31404
